Adaptable venue design

May 21th // 13:45 - 14:45

A recurring design challenge faced by theatre consultants and architects is to create a performance space that is multi-functional. Whenever a client brief asks for a room to serve a variety of different styles of performance or event, it poses a challenging design opportunity.

This presentation will explore some common as well as unusual examples of multi-functional spaces, and how the sometimes competing requirements are reconciled through a combination of geometric arrangement, technological innovation and careful compromise.

Chris Dales and Paul Halter will use case studies from their own work to demonstrate examples of successful design solutions that strike the correct balance between ease of use, flexibility and performance, with an opportunity for discussion at the end.
